What are you looking for in the Martial Arts?

Many people don't know exactly what to expect when they come to our school. To many, karate classes mean lots of evil looking people in funny pajamas, punching each other and breaking boards and things with their feet! Hopefully, the days of the dark dungeon dojos are in the past - but too many schools stray away from an overly disciplined heritage to what Master John Graden calls "Pooh Bear" schools.

Our Woodstock Mixed Martial Arts program is both a fun and demanding program that trains students that hard work is an important, rewarding part of life. The things that come too easy are often the least valued. Setting appropriate goals and working towards those goals is the heart of our belt program. Belts are not given, but earned - and our unique rotating curriculum makes sure that students don't learn a technique for a test and forget it a week later!

Our school is a little different than most, a little brighter, a lot more fun - and our students really learn both when and how to protect themselves. Stop by today and watch a class, ask some questions.

The Advancing Tigers Program!

Slightly older students (or students that graduate from our Little Dragons program) can join our Advancing Tigers classes here at Woodstock Mixed Martial Arts. These classes are the same as our MMA classes except that they meet once a week (instead of twice per week). Our special Tigers class presents material at a slightly slower pace, but Tiger students are also welcome to attend any of our Year 1 classes if they can't make the Tiger class is a given week.

Advancing Tigers range in age from 4 to 6 years old and need to be able to learn our Foundation Skills as a requirement for participation. Age is often a good indicator of physical development, but we have quite a bit of overlap between our Dragons and Tigers program and feel that a child's sense of success is really the best indicator of effective learning - and fun!

Our Tigers classes are designed to be fun, but we also feel that learning self-discipline is very important for this age group. We make an effort to burn off lots of childhood energy - but always in a controlled and safe environment. Goofing around is not encouraged - unless we're all having fun with Crab Races or Monkey Wars!

Go, Tigers!

With childhood obesity being at record highs and new discovered information linking childhood obesity with lifelong adult obesity, many parents are working hard to keep their children active. It's a tough battle; the gaming consoles, computer games and a million TV channels don't make it easy to get kids up and running around! Add in hectic work and school schedules and it's really easy to just give up!

Here at the Schulenburg Family Woodstock Mixed Martial Arts we aren't giving up. We make sure all of our students get a good workout and have fun doing it. We firmly believe that the only way exercise will become a lifestyle is if it's enjoyable.
